Salty Dog Installation Guide

Thank you for purchasing a Salty Dog Remote! Installation takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

-Salty Dog Receiver

-Salty Dog Handheld Remote

-External Antenna

-Drill

-Screwdrivers

-Wire strippers/crimpers

-Heat shrink or electrical tape

-Zip ties

Before permanently mounting the receiver, it must first be paired with your trolling motor and shallow water anchor.

 Temporarily power the receiver with a 12V source and place it close enough to communicate with the trolling motor and shallow water anchors.

Enter Pairing Mode

1. Press and hold the black button on the Salty Dog receiver for 3 seconds.
2. The receiver status LED will flash two times and start blinking while in pairing mode, indicating Pairing Mode has been enabled.
3. The receiver will remain in Pairing Mode for 2 minutes.
4. Follow the instructions below for your setup.

Note: Pairing Mode automatically exits after 2 minutes or whenever receiver power is removed.

Minn Kota i-Pilot 

1. Turn on the trolling motor.
2. Press and hold the Pair button on the trolling motor control head until a steady tone is heard.
3. While the motor is in pairing mode, press and hold the Plus button on the Salty Dog remote.
4. Release the Motor Toggle button after the trolling motor emits three confirmation beeps.

 Raptor Shallow Water Anchor

1. While the motor is in pairing mode, press the Anchor Down button on the Salty Dog remote.
2. Wait 5 seconds then press (do not hold) the PAIR button on the Raptor Pump Assembly.
3. The PAIR/Maintenance LED on the pump will begin flashing blue, indicating the pump is in pairing mode.
4. Wait for three quick beeps from the pump assembly. The beeps confirm the pairing was successful.
5. If the pairing times out (approximately 30 seconds) or the pump emits a timeout chirp, repeat the procedure.

Note: Pair each Raptor pump individually on dual-anchor installations.

Power Pole Move 

1. Turn on the trolling motor.
2. Place the Salty Dog receiver directly on top of the MOVE display.
3. Press and hold the Plus button on the Salty Dog remote.This will open the six second pairing window (The MOVE will constantly ring and the 3 LED's on the Head Unit will intermittently flash LIGHT BLUE). 
4. Within 6 seconds, press the Minus button on the Salty Dog remote.
5. The MOVE display will emit two beeps when pairing is complete.

Power Pole Shallow Water Anchor 

1. Press and hold the Program button on the HPU for approximately 3 seconds until the LED turns solid green.
2. Press the Anchor Down button on the Salty Dog remote.
3. The HPU will beep and the LED will flash to confirm pairing.
4. Repeat the process for the second HPU on dual-anchor systems.

Do not permanently mount the receiver until pairing has been completed.

After successful pairing, move the receiver to its permanent mounting location.

The receiver should be installed:

-In a dry compartment whenever possible.

-Securely mounted to prevent movement.

-Within reach of the antenna cable.

-Away from excessive heat.

-Away from high-current power cables when practical.

Because pairing information is stored in the receiver, it is not necessary to leave the receiver near the trolling motor after pairing.

Connect the receiver power harness to a fused 12-volt power source.

-Red wire - +12 VDC

-Black wire - Ground

Use a fuse size to protect the wire you use, it can be a smaller size fuse. The unit has a resettable breaker to protect it.

After power is applied, verify the reciever powers on.

Proper antenna placement is critical for maximum operating range.

For best performance:

-Mount the antenna vertically.

-Keep the antenna away from large metal objects.

-Do not sharply bend or kink the antenna cable.

-Do not coil excess antenna cable tightly.

-Tighten the SMA connector securely by hand.

Route the power and antenna cables neatly.

Use zip ties to secure all wiring.

Avoid routing cables near moving parts or areas where they may become pinched.

With the receiver installed:

-Verify trolling motor steering.

-Verify speed control.

-Verify motor on/off functions.

-Verify shallow water anchor operation.

Your Salty Dog Remote is now ready for use.
